Aizat, whose full name is Muhammad Aizat Amdan, a former student of the famed Akademi Fantasia Season Five (in which Mila was named champion), has proven that you don’t have to be a winner to have a winning song as Hanya Kau Yang Mampu topped the music charts at local radio stations such as Suria FM and ERA FM soon after the single’s release earlier this year.

Following the huge success of the single, Aizat is now ready to take the music industry by storm by releasing his debut album, an eight-track outing entitled Percubaan Pertama, which also showcases him as the album’s co-producer.

Despite the success of Hanya Kau Yang Mampu, the young lad downplayed it by saying that his journey with music had just begun.

“We first released Hanya Kau Yang Mampu and Sahabat as singles to test the market. The rest of the album was completed last April. I’m just happy to be back in the music industry,” said the young talent recently.

“Hanya Kau Yang Mampu, which was written by Indonesian composer Taufik, has given me a boost of confidence and people are now receptive of me as a singer/composer,” said the visibly slimmer Pahang-born Aizat. Taufik also wrote Aizat another popular single, Sahabat.

“He gave me his demo and I heard both his songs. I was taken by their strong melodies,” explained Aizat.

“I am so happy that Hanya Kau Yang Mampu has aided me in putting my music out there,” said Aizat, who is set to release his second single entitled Fikirlah soon.

“That is purely a Malaysian track. Our compositions are as strong as those of Indonesians,” said Aizat, who also composed three out of eight songs on the album: the infectious Lagu Kita, Cintai Diriku and Selamat Tinggal Akhirnya.

“I love the creative process. I have a say in the music arrangement and that, for me, is crucial,” said Aizat, adding that he got a lot of help from his older brothers Anas and Amar, and the album’s executive producer Muhajid Abd Wahab of Universal Music.

“So far, the response has been overwhelming and I am thrilled that fans and music critics have been giving me good reviews. I am glad that my team’s efforts are paying off.”

Aizat also said that his debut was extra special for him as it was inspired by his idols such as the Beatles, John Lennon, John Mayer, Ahmad Dahni of Dewa and M. Nasir.

“These great songwriters inspired me to become a composer. They are talented and people look up to them as musicians who have impacted the industry profoundly.”

It seemed like years ago when he was first spotted rendering Anuar Zain’s Perpisahan during the weekly contest of AF5. Despite his outstanding performances that night and praises from all the judges, Aizat fell victim to the SMS voters.

Aizat recalled that after being voted out on the seventh week of AF5, he decided to form a band called D’Amdans for fun. It comprises himself and his siblings Alif, Anas, Amar and sister Nur Ili Zuhair, who all can sing and play musical instruments.

“I’m so blessed as my family is very musical. And the people responsible for my involvement in music are my mother Umi and my father Amdan, who used to have his own band in his younger days.”

The album’s liner notes reveal no involvement of famous composers. In fact, it features six songs written by Aizat and his brothers.

“Who doesn’t want to work with famous and talented composers? But this album is fully sponsored by my father, and with the limited budget, I had to work around the financial constraints,” explained Aizat.

“But I was thinking, why don’t I use this album as a platform for us to try our songwriting and see the response from fans.

“But seriously, I feel it is more personal to sing my own songs, as I wrote and composed it straight from my heart.

“I guess my involvement in Akademi Fantasia 5 was an eye-opener on what the music scene is all about,” said Aizat, who has just completed his foundation course in music at International College of Music (ICOM) and hopes to enrol for a degree course in sound engineering soon.

“I decided to enrol at ICOM because I’m extremely serious about music and I want to learn more,” said Aizat, who is all set to embark on a series of promotional tours throughout the country for his debut.
